Singing Performance

The spoken voice and the singing voice are sisters, yet many theatre performers are terrified of singing. This workshop, led in the classic masterclass format by Isabeau Proulx Lemire, actor-singer and researcher in the theatricality of the singing voice, will allow each performer to interpret one or two songs of their choice. The facilitator will adjust to the challenges and strengths of each performer (whether vocal, musical, or theatrical), and everyone will find significant new ways of expressing themselves.
Prerequisites
Performing arts experience, actors will be given priority. Bilingual workshop: English + French.
Specific requirement(s) for the course
Each participant will have to provide, before December 19, the scores of the two songs they want to work on, as they will be learned by a pianist. It is requested that participants sing in their mother tongue.
Accessibility: Please contact us with any accommodations you may require in order to participate in this development workshop. We will be happy to accommodate you.
Isabeau Proulx Lemire

Actor-singer, his career took off twenty years ago with the Cirque du Soleil (La Nouba) at Walt Disney World. Then, in addition to treading the boards of the Rideau Vert (Une vie presque normale) and the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde (Nelligan), he was part of the cast of Les Misérables at the Capitole de Québec and the Just for Laughs musicals (Mary Poppins and Hairspray). Trained in classical singing at the University of Montreal, he has performed some twenty roles in operas and operettas with companies here and abroad: the Opéra de Montréal, the Opéra Comique de Paris, the Toronto Masque Theater, the Opéra de Québec, the Opéra Bouffe du Québec, and many others. Trained at the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal as a stage director, he has directed several theatrical concerts that he has written with various orchestras, including the Orchestre de l’Agora and La Sinfonia de Lanaudière, as well as the Arion Orchestre Baroque ensemble. Among his accomplishments, he has directed operettas and operas such as Le Chanteur de Mexico at the Opéra Bouffe du Québec as well as recent productions by the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal: Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus (dir. Alain Trudel) and Jules Massenet’s Cendrillon (dir. Jacques Lacombe). With a wealth of theatrical know-how and a wide range of stage knowledge forged by a decidedly atypical career, he is now more actively involved in directing and teaching (ICAV).
