Balance workshop with Heidi Blais

Hand balance is a practice that takes consistency and perseverance. So how do we reconnect with the curiosity and joy to make this practice sustainable over the long term? While we will work on educational skills to develop strength, mobility, alignment and endurance on the hands, there will also be moments of play and exploration to inspire a stimulating and rewarding relationship with this practice that has the potential to cultivate our awareness of both body and mind.
Prerequisites
It is strongly recommended that participants be able to hold on to their hands for 1 minute with the support of a wall, or have a free handstand of 5 seconds or more, all with calm breathing.

Heidi Blais

– Heidi Blais – Born in California and based in Montreal, Heidi Blais is a self-taught circus artist. She practices and teaches hand balancing, hand to hand, acroyoga, slackline and hair hanging. A graduate of UC Berkeley with a degree in architecture, Heidi views movement arts through the lens of her design background. As much focused on play as an interest in biomechanics, her pedagogical approach aims to unlock new bodily and creative pathways with her students. In 2018 and 2019, Heidi traversed the world record highlines, measuring 1.9 and 2.0 km long respectively, in Asbestos, Quebec. She has been teaching with AcroYoga Montreal since 2012 and performing in-situ circus with Branché since 2020.
