The body at the heart of the interpretation

An exchange between Daniel Gol, an Italian creator who has developed a unique approach to physical theater and Hugo Bélanger, a professional in the mastery of masked and body play. Animated by a cultural mediator in order to go to the meeting of a culture, a vision, of the other, while passing by the body, the movement and the objects which surround us. How to make a body speak so that it tells our story.

Daniel Gol et Hugo Bélanger

Daniel Gol, theater director and teacher, approaches the world of acting at the age of 9, attending the Active Theater Center in Milan. After graduating in foreign languages, he moves to Los Angeles, where he follows the two-year program at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute. In Los Angeles he starts collaborating with the multifaceted physical theater performer Rachel Rosenthal, and explores the relationship between body expression and objects in a symbolic set. He later continues his research in physical theater and metaphorical sets with the French company Thèatre Diagonale, and with belgian director Agnès Limbos, from company Gare Centrale.

In 2003 he creates Teatrodistinto with Laura Marchegiani. The Company begins its journey with creative workshops for adults, adolescents and children. Since 2006, several plays intended for children and young people are being performed in most european countries, as well as in United States, Japan, China, Korea and Iran: Kish Kush, The Black Sheep, The Crocodile Chant, The Rematch, Solitarium. Besides creating works for Teatrodistinto , Daniel Gol also collaborates on specific projects with national theaters and festivals, both in Italy and abroad.

Hugo Bélanger has been delighting audiences for more than 25 years with shows where theatricality and inventiveness give way to dreams and poetry. A jack-of-all-trades creator and specialist in masked and physical acting, he creates for the theater, circus and opera with equal joy. His artistic signature combines a precision of the bodies with a love for strong and poetic images and knows how to touch an audience of all ages and all types. Artistic director of Théâtre Tout à Trac, a company he founded nearly 25 years ago, he creates shows for the general public that have made a lasting impression by winning numerous awards.

Also a teacher, he teaches in the main professional teaching institutions in Quebec, including the National Theatre School of Canada and the National Circus School. He regularly gives master classes around the world.
