Dramaturgical Direction for Circus and the Performing Arts

What is dramaturgy, and how does it relate to the creation of circus and performance works? The focus will be on difficult balancing acts such as meaning versus abstraction, narrative structure versus physical practice, disciplines and how to combine different media (physical, sound, digital, etc.) on stage. Dramaturgy will be put into practice by working in small groups on participant-proposed concepts and focusing on the following questions: what is practice? what is research? and how is it articulated in public?
