Aboriginal theater

Participants will be invited to discover the creative process of aboriginal theater that allows for the exploration of new horizons and new tools. Experiencing the power of sharing circles, meditation and animal movements to explore new aspects of the body and creation. “Ondinnok Productions’ mission has always been to provide the opportunity to grow with art. Art, our art, reveals and expresses the essence of our cultures, it defines each of us, forges our identity. To achieve this we must keep in mind the four founding stones and pillars of Ondinnok’s vision. Respect (Respect), non-judgment (Do not judge yourself and others), courage (Do not be afraid to be afraid), truth (Do not lie to yourself or to others) are the very form of our creations and our workshop-meetings. Putting them into play and naming them sets a framework, a rule to be stated and followed. The four corners, the four directions draw the space in which the natives place themselves. They add the heart of the sky and the heart of the earth, which is the axis of the standing human. The axis of prayer. Our “playground” is delimited by our four stones. In this playground, everything can be said, welcomed, listened to, if it is said with respect, without judgment, in a search for truth and with courage.”

Dave Jenniss

Dave Jenniss is an artist from the Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk Nation and the artistic director of Ondinnok Productions, a multidisciplinary francophone Aboriginal company that has been in existence for 37 years. He is also an actor, director, playwright and screenwriter.

Since 2008, Dave Jenniss has been recognized for his writing, which is touchingly truthful and close to his Wolastoq identity. Jenniss distinguished himself as a playwright with his texts Wulustek in (2008) and repise in (2011) by Ondinnok Productions, The Drum of Time in (2012), Mokatek and the Missing Star in (2018), Kthakomiq in (2018), Toqaq mecimi puwiht /Delphine’s Dreams Are Still Coming in 2022 and Nmithaqs
Sqotewamqol / The ash of his bones. On the side of directing and acting, his talent is increasingly noticed. We saw his work in the production À te regarder ils s’habitueront (2017) co-production Théâtre de Quat’sous and Orange Noyé. The year 2021 was once again to put forward his talent as an actor’s director with the Enclos de Wabush (2021) co-production Ondinnok and the New Experimental Theatre and his own text, Nmithaqs Sqotewamqol / La cendre de ses os at the theater La Licorne.
