Physical Theatre Improvement Week

This intensive workshop is a creative journey through our biographies and the various possibilities to translate them into action, movement, and performance. Through a gradual sequence of individual and group works, each performer explores and develops his/her own poetic style, becoming creator, designer, and author of original biographical works. In this specific exploration, spoken words lose their central role, leaving space to gesture, abstraction, and interaction with symbolic objects. During the workshop, the participants have a space to express powerful emotions and are encouraged to leave behind conventional and clichéd expressions in search of their own unique artistic voices.

Daniel Gol

Daniel Gol, theatre director and teacher, approached the world of acting at the age of nine, attending the Active Theater Center in Milan. After graduating in foreign languages, he moved to Los Angeles, where he followed the two-year program at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute. In Los Angeles he started collaborating with the multifaceted physical theater performer Rachel Rosenthal, and explored the relationship between body expression and objects in a symbolic set. He later continued his research in physical theater and metaphorical sets with the French company Thèatre Diagonale, and with Belgian director Agnès Limbos, from the company Gare Centrale. In 2003, he created Teatrodistinto with Laura Marchegiani. The company began its journey with creative workshops for adults, adolescents, and children. Since 2006, several plays intended for children and young people have been performed in most European countries, as well as in the United States, Japan, China, Korea, and Iran: Kish Kush, The Black Sheep, The Crocodile Chant, The Rematch, Solitarium. Besides creating works for Teatrodistinto, Daniel Gol also collaborates on specific projects with national theatres and festivals, both in Italy and abroad.
