Argentine Tango initiation

Faye and Bryant offer you an introduction to Argentine Tango. Not the one you are used to see on stage with jumps and jumps! But rather the one that was born in the streets of Buenos Aires, that is danced with a set of feet on the ground and that is found today in the greatest dance halls around the world. It is an improvised tango, with a close style where the essential is the communication, the feeling and the will to be present for a moment that will never be again. The course will be divided into 3 parts (body, music and practice): 1- Short history of the evolution of tango/ Body alignment/ Connection exercise. 2- Introduction to the 3 rhythms/ Musical walking technique/ Dancing the melody vs. the rhythm. 3- Basic figure/ Introduction to improvisation/ Come discover with us the passion of Argentine Tango! “Tango is the expression of a feeling that is danced” – Bryant Lopez

Faye Lavin et Bryant Lopez

Faye Lavin, born in Quebec, is an accomplished artist. She has studied theater, singing and dance since she was a child. She graduated from the Conservatoire de musique, in Vincent d’Indy. She continued her musical theatre studies at Cap 21 in NYC and at Randolph Academy in Toronto. This path, allows her to discover her passion: the Argentinean tango. She then founded her own school, Tango Soul, with her partner and spouse, Bryant Lopez. They are specialists in traditional Argentine tango from Buenos Aires. They distinguish themselves, by their purely improvised, elegant, and, connected style. She is internationally recognized for the high quality of her teaching and for her numerous performances. She is the Canadian champion of tango in 2018. She was a finalist at the World Championships in Buenos Aires, in 2013. She is fortunate to have returned to the Eastern Townships in 2019 so that she can offer her two little girls a childhood filled with happiness and great opportunities.

Bryant Lopez, was born in Canada, however, when he was 4 years old, his parents decided to move back to Argentina. During his youth, he discovered all the richness of the folklore and the culture that is linked to it. He trained as a young dancer and developed his basic technique.  At the age of 19, he begins his training as an Argentine tango dancer. He was strongly influenced by the great masters of the time: Roberto Herrera, Vanina Bilous, Osvaldo Zotto, Jose Lampaso, Juan Carlos Copes, Carlos & Rosa Perez, Fabian Peralta. In 2000, he returned to Canada, thanks to a show, “A rose for Mr. Tango”. He founded the Tango Congress “El Congreso”, as well as his school: Tango Soul. He is recognized, as much for his traditional and authentic style, as for his great qualities as a teacher, both in Canada and internationally. He is identified as one of the dancers of the new generation, who has maintained the traditional style, namely: the quality of the walk, the expression of his embrace, as well as the musical expression, entirely improvised. He is Canadian champion of tango of track in 2018. He was a finalist, also, at the World Championships in Buenos Aires, in 2013.

Faye and Bryant are internationally renowned traditional Argentinean tango dancers. Their style is inspired by the Milongas of Buenos Aires. They have preserved the authenticity of the traditional tango, born in the golden age, and bring their own touch of the present time // To dance tango is to let oneself be crossed by the emotion, by the feeling, which emerges from the texts and the music, to interpret them, while remaining connected to each other, in the abrazo. They continue to develop their embrace, their elegant walk, their musicality // Transmitting the essence, transmitting the rich and deep culture of traditional Argentine tango, is very important to them. They have appeared in several films: “Take the Lead”, with Antonio Banderas, “Tuxedo” with Jack Chan. They have participated in performances with the Cirque du Soleil, and in the Luminato festival. They organize “El Congreso” (International Congress of Argentine Tango in Canada) and host the participants. They are the directors of the Tango Soul school, Argentine Tango Academy, in Canada. Faye and Bryant travel the world performing and teaching at art festivals and Argentine tango festivals. They were finalists in the Argentine Tango MUNDIAL in 2013 in Buenos Aires and were crowned Canadian Champions in 2018.
