Creative Workshop with Yosmell Calderón Mejías
The workshop offered to you by Yosmell Calderón Mejías will explore the simplicity of movement. He shares his contrast of linear positions and liquid transitions using elements of Contemporary Dance, Flying Low Technique, and Cuban modern dance, which mixes classic Modern techniques with Afro-Cuban folklore and Spanish dance. Yosmell will share phrases from his past choreographies, as well as develop new movement. He will encourage the importance of having a synchronized mind, corporal memory, and body all working as one.

Workshop given in English. Good knowledge of English.

Yosmell Calderon Mejias
Born in Russia, Yosmell Calderón Mejías graduated as a dancer and professor of contemporary dance from the National School of Dance in Havana in 2005. His professional career began the same year, when he joined Danza Contemporanea De Cuba where he collaborated with great figures from the world of dance such as Rafael Bonachela, Mats Ek, Itzik Galili, Carlos Junior Acosta, Jan Linkens, Juan Cruz, and Ana Laguna. Simultaneously, he was completing his degree in contemporary dance and folklore from University of Art of Cuba (2014). Yosmell continued to become the principal dancer of Pal Frenak Compagnie, performing more then 22 works presented in festivals around the world. In 2016, Yosmell worked as a choreographer and dancer for Chatelet Opera in Paris, France. That same year, he joined Les Ballets Jazz De Montreal under the direction of Louis Robitaille. Now, in his seventh season with BJM, Yosmell has continued touring the world performing the works of Andonis Foniadakis, Barack Marshall, Ihsan Rustem, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, and Aszure Barton, among others.
